Drivers everywhere are getting desperate in their attempts to save money at the fuel pump. Unfortunately, this leads to a lot of misinformation being spread about what actually will improve your fuel economy. Follow our Mercedes-Benz service tips to separate fact from fiction so you can save!
Myth: Having Your Windows Rolled Down Hurts Your Fuel Economy
Having extra features running on your vehicle such as the radio or AC does use a bit of gas. As a result, some people sweat out the summer and forgo the AC to save on gas. However, a lot of drivers will also keep their windows rolled up as they have been led to believe that having them rolled down makes the vehicle less aerodynamic.
Frankly, there is just no science that backs this up. Also, if it is super-hot outside, you can use the AC. The difference it will make is not worth heatstroke.
Fact: Weight Affects Gas Mileage
This one is actually true! If you have a ton of passengers in your vehicle, or a bunch of extra cargo that you can remove, the extra weight makes your vehicle have to work harder. Remember, any time you create extra work for your vehicle, you are using more ga.
Myth: Start/Stop is Better Than Idling
A lot of drivers believe that if they should turn off their car and then turn it back on instead of idling. This is really only the case if your car is going to be idling for more than a few minutes. Otherwise, the difference is either non-existent or completely negligible.
Fact: Wheels Play a Big Role
If your wheels are unaligned or if your tires are balding or deflated, it can really hurt your gas mileage. Bring your vehicle in to the Mercedes-Benz of Annapolis Service Center for any and all service needs!
